Design Detective Comics

Story behind ‘Design Detective Comics’

When I started my UX journey from Architecture, I leaned on my love for sketching, observing products, and capturing their details visually.

But as I delved deeper, I realized UX design isn’t just about how products look—it’s about the experience.

This sparked a shift in perspective. I began focusing on how products function, how users interact with them, and the emotions they evoke. To simplify and share these insights, I created ‘Design Detective Comics,’ blending my passion for visual storytelling with UX research.

In these comics, a fictional character, Design Detective (DD), observes real-world design scenarios and unpacks the principles behind them. Each strip combines my personal observations and UX research to make design concepts approachable and fun.

Why Comics?

Comics allow me to:

  • Document my learnings in an engaging way.

  • Simplify design principles for easy understanding.

  • Experiment with storytelling to inspire curiosity in others.

Learnings

The world of UX design has taught me that the smallest details can have the biggest impact on the user experience. By observing, researching, and documenting, I’ve come to appreciate the thoughtfulness that goes into every design decision.

By adding these comics to my portfolio, I aim to showcase how observation, empathy, and creativity intersect in UX design.

I hope they inspire others to:

  • Observe their surroundings more intentionally.

  • Approach design with user empathy.

  • Find creative ways to document their journey.

Comic 2: Emotional Design in Everyday Life: Lessons from an Elevator Ride

Comic 2: Emotional Design in Everyday Life: Lessons from an Elevator Ride

Have you ever stood in an elevator, unsure if you’ve reached your floor? That brief moment of panic—especially on a stressful day—can make the experience feel frustrating. This small but common scenario got me thinking about Emotional Design, a UX principle that enhances experiences by considering feelings, feedback, and delight.

Why Emotional Design Matters

Great UX isn’t just about function—it’s about how users experience and remember a product. Emotional Design is built on three key principles.

Visceral Design – First impressions shape emotions. Colors, sounds, and animations set the tone.
Behavioral Design – Clear feedback reassures users, reducing stress and confusion.
Reflective Design – A good experience lingers, creating a lasting positive impression.

Designing with Emotion in Mind

This thought stuck with me so much that I decided my next DD Comics will be all about Emotional Design! Through storytelling, I’ll explore how small UX choices can create positive, memorable experiences.
